Character Creation

Postby Rhicora Thu Aug 17, 2017 12:44 am

Your character's race is what it says on the character sheet. Tieflings are distant descendants of a fiend, far more influenced by humans than the fiendish ancestor. They are not devils or demons themselves. Aasimar aren't celestials, and nobody is a werewolf. If you're in doubt, open a ticket before creating the character.

It's fine to have a prestigious backstory (came from a small noble family), or possess standing with a branch of a faction outside of Skullport (e.g. Zhentarim soldier from the surface). You should not expect or roleplay having any special advantages as a result of these backstories. Lolthites should not present themselves as starting in House Lysaen, nor should aristocrats attempt to draw upon their family's money in DMed events. Characters with highly unusual levels of backstory prestige ("House Baenre" or "Elminster's son") will be asked to retcon it and rewrite.

There may be opportunities for you to change your character's hairstyle and hair color after character creation, but you won't be able to change skin color or face. United Colors has been enabled for hair color and skin, greatly widening the range of colors you can choose from. You are still expected to choose sensible natural skin colors for your character's race and origin, and dyed hair should be realistically so. If there are concerns about your selections being implausible (think cherry red or neon green anything), we'll ask you to rebuild.

For the time being, we ask that you avoid creating drow or yuan-ti that completely pass for humans/elves -- if you create a szarkai, elven-looking half-drow, or yuan-ti pureblood, be sure to provide details in their bio that allow observers to figure out their true nature on close inspection.

We strongly recommend you choose a sensible, muted color for your hair. This is Skullport, not Planescape.

Acceptable skin tones will vary by your race and will be a smaller subset of above.
